Joan Mace BlackFebruary 7, 1936 - January 1, 2023Joan Mace Black, of Wheaton Maryland, passed away on January 1, 2023, at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. She was 86 years old.Born February 7, 1936 in Gaffney, South Carolina to Leonard Mace and Elizabeth Godfrey, Joan graduated from Gaffney High School.Joan was married to the love of her life Charles A. Black for 50 years before his passing in 2004.Joan enjoyed spending time with her family. She never missed celebrating holidays and always looked forward to every opportunity to travel, and celebrate birthdays and other special family events.Beloved by family and friends who will all miss her dearly, Joan will be remembered by her children, Charles (Emily) Black, Donna (Jim) Michela and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Black; brother James (Cathy) Godfrey; sisters Sybil Shropshire, Sharon (Phil) Szito; cherished grandchildren, Richard, Heather, Andrea, Garrett and Daniel Black, Kurtis (Kelly) Michela, Kristen (BJ) Debuchananne and great grand-children Kendall and James DeBuchananne.A funeral service will be held at DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg, MD on Saturday, January 7 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.
