On Sunday, May 15, 2022 JoAnn Mettler Bosnick of Montgomery Village, MD died peacefully at Georgetown University Hospital. Beloved wife of Anthony J. Bosnick; loving mother of Joe (Ashley), Rosie, Matthew (Lindsey) and Daniel (Katie); grandmother of Audrey, Eleanor, Madeline, James, Henry and Arthur; Sister of Patrick Mettler, Jeanne Mettler, Meg Wormley, Sally Joyce and Suzanne Mettler.
Jody was born and raised in the small community of Copake Falls in Upstate New York, where she was active in country and farm life, riding her pony and engaged in 4-H. Her family had deep roots in the area. Her father owned a dairy farm and was a local veterinarian. Her mother founded and edited the local newspaper. Jody was one of six children, with one older brother and four younger sisters. She still loved family gatherings on the hillside of the family farm and took great joy in reuniting with her siblings whenever possible.
While in high school, Jody volunteered one summer at Camphill Village in nearby Copake. She enjoyed working there with people with special needs. It set the direction of her life. She attended St. Joseph College in West Hartford, Connecticut, majoring in special education.
Jody was hired by Montgomery County to teach elementary aged students with special needs. She stayed with the county for ten years until marrying and having her children. When the children were older, she began teaching at local Catholic Schools, including Mother of God School in Gaithersburg and St. Raphael School in Rockville, MD.
She loved teaching and made a positive impact on many students and parents.
She especially enjoyed cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Her stuffing was legendary. She took great joy in making her “Country Grandma’s” out of this world potato salad and hosting her winter “Comfort Food Party” with friends. (All—really--were so disappointed when it had to be cancelled during the pandemic.)
Jody was active for many years in the Mother of God Community and local Catholic parishes, including St. John Neumann. She retired from teaching after the second year of the pandemic and looked forward to visiting grandchildren and traveling. She began serving with families of children in the parish religious education program. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister in a local nursing home, and looked forward to taking Communion to residents and getting to know them.
Jody enjoyed people and loved to talk! A number of friends and neighbors have expressed how much she meant to them and the pleasure they had in knowing her. Jody made friends wherever she went.
Jody was the loving mother to her four children and a loving grandmother of six. She enjoyed visiting and facetiming her grandchildren, who brought her such happiness. Jody supported her children through good times and bad and was an immovable rock on which they depended. She was known to proudly wear a sweatshirt that said “I may not look tough, but I raised a Marine.” She was her children’s biggest fan in all their endeavors.
She never lost her love of country life in Copake Falls, and in light of that, she will be returned for burial in New St. Bridget’s Cemetery, her parish cemetery at Our Lady of Hope Church.
Friends may call at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9000 Warfield Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20882 on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 2 to 4 pm and on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 10:30 to 11:30 with Mass of Christian Burial to be offered at 11:30 am. Interment private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shady Grove Pregnancy Center ( www.pregnancy-options.org), Catholic Relief Services (www.crs.org) or charity of ones choice.
May she rest in peace with all her friends in Heaven.
