Joetta was born on July 19, 1947, in Oak Hill, WV, to the late Alvin Harrison Ellison, Sr., and Ethel Marie Campbell Ellison. Joetta was a part of a large, loving family that included 13 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. McBride; her parents; five brothers, Melvin L. "Sonny" Ellison, Robert Ellison Sr., Charles Ellison, James Ray Ellison, and Ricky Lynn Ellison; and five sisters, Ruby Jean Rose, Linda C. Selke, Loretta June Archer, Judy Kay Helton, and Natella G. Archer.
Survivors include: her two sons, Timothy Wayne Ellison of Germantown, MD, and William Frederick McBride (Roxana) of Germantown, MD; two brothers, Alvin H. "Butch" Ellison of Lookout, WV, and Jennings Kent Ellison (Kathy) of Oak Hill, WV; two granddaughters, Daniella Jaray of Clarksburg, MD, and Naomi Jaray of College Park, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
Joetta had great love for both of her sons, Tim and Fred, but Tim always held a special place in her heart, as they always thought of each other as their “No. 1’s.” Ever since Tim was born, Joetta and Tim were “attached at the hip.” If you found one, the other was sure to be close by, as they always looked out for each other. Throughout life, Joetta kept a close eye on Tim while teaching him valuable life skills and helping him learn how to be independent. Tim gave no hesitation when it came to caring for and assisting Joetta during times of need, especially during her later stages in life. He stepped in anytime help was required, often without needing to be asked. Anyone that knew of or saw these two together, would say they had an unbreakable bond. There is no doubt that Joetta will continue this bond as Tim’s personal guardian angel.
Joetta had a big heart, as she was the caretaker for her sons and many children, who all will never forget their “grand adventures” to the mall, school, candy stores, beauty salons, restaurants, or even all the way to West Virginia. If one of the children wanted to go somewhere, Joetta always did her best to make it happen. She also displayed a deep love for her three dogs: Peanut, Butter, and Hershey, who were better known as the “Three Stooges.”
