Jon Patrick White, 61, of Potomac, MD, passed away with his wife at his side in his home on November 23, 2025. The second of four siblings, Jon was born to John (“Jack”) and Annette White in Bethesda, MD. At an early age, Jon became an avid Washington, D.C., sports fan and was an athlete himself, excelling in baseball and football. He also loved to fish, and as of late, had an obsession with shark fishing on his beloved Hilton Head Island, SC. Above all, he loved his wife and children more than anything in the world.
Jon attended George Mason University and began his career in sales at ROLM (later acquired by IBM/Siemens) in 1985. Two years later, he met the love of his life, Cathryn Crater, who was also employed at ROLM. The two went on to marry on August 8, 1992 and later settled in Potomac, MD, where they raised their three children – Haley, Jack, and Meredith.
In 2006, Jon joined ESI International, where he developed ESI’s consulting and learning services to State & Local Government Agencies, Municipalities, and Educational Institutions. Since then, he held roles at Learning Tree International, Explorance, and CoachHub within technology sales and consulting, advising senior executives on strategic talent management, leadership, culture change, and business transformation initiatives.
Jon instilled his love for sports into his children when they were young. His family spent many nights and Sunday afternoons watching football, baseball, golf, and hockey. He grew up going to RFK Stadium to watch his beloved Redskins, and as a young adult spent many Fall Saturdays tailgating with friends and family at the University of Maryland. He was quite the baseball player growing up, known by his teammates and family as “Moose.” His love for baseball turned his daughters Haley and Meredith into pitchers for their club and school softball teams. He also loved spending time out on the golf course with his wife Cathryn and son Jack – even when his round didn’t go as planned.
In addition to sports, Jon enjoyed music and was a fan of several genres. For those who knew him, it was very clear that his favorite band was Journey. He often sat at his family’s kitchen counter, scrolling through YouTube for his favorite live Journey moments to show Cathryn and his children. Haley, Jack, and Meredith loved riding in the car with Jon and listening to his favorite Journey hits, or whatever else would make him sing.
When Jon and Cathryn began dating, Jon was invited to join Cathryn’s family at their vacation home on Hilton Head Island, SC. This quickly became his home away from home with Cathryn, where they would spend every summer on the Island with their children. Jon’s happy place was on the beach with Cathryn, Haley and her husband Kyle Werner, Jack and his fiancé Samantha Selhorst, Meredith and her fiancé Ryan Sullivan, and their family dog Milo.
Jon’s wife, children, and dog were the core of his being. He was a force of nature who filled whatever room he was in with joy and laughter. He was happiest when he had his whole family
together under one roof – either in Potomac, MD, or on Hilton Head Island, SC. Jon lived with a strong sense of discipline and purpose, but he carried it with a light touch and a generous spirit. He believed in showing up, working hard, and doing things the right way, and he passed those values on to his children. When challenges arose, he never hesitated to step in and support the people around him. His kindness was expansive, and countless family members, friends, and colleagues benefited from it over the years. He was a steadying force, and those who knew him felt the strength of his presence.
To know Jon was to feel genuine warmth, steady humor, and a generosity that never asked for recognition. He left a mark on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path, and the example he set – especially the importance of loving your family intentionally and deeply – will continue to guide those he loved for years to come. Jon is survived by his wife Cathryn White, his three children – Haley (Kyle Werner), Jon (“Jack”), and Meredith; his mother Annette White; his father John (“Jack”) White (Dana White); his three sisters – Laurie (Richard McGrath), Kelly (Michael Keating), and Kathleen (Ron Tassa); his sister-in-law Susan (Tucker York); and 11 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law Quincy (“Chip”) Monroe Crater II and mother-in-law Julia (“Julie”) Francis Crater.
A memorial service to celebrate Jon's life will be held at Potomac Presbyterian Church on River Rd., Potomac, MD on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) at http://www2.breakthrought1d.org/goto/jon_partrick_white.
