
Joy Lynne Rhynard, of Clifton, VA, formerly of Jefferson County, CO, passed away at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital on March 8th, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 84. Born in Columbus, OH, July 16, 1941, she was the daughter of the late W. Ronald Ansley and Charlotte Lucille Arndt. When asked to describe herself as a child, Joy said she was an “ornery tomboy.” She attended Ohio State University where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. Joy later worked in local government in Jefferson County, CO.
Joy had a passion for travel. Her favorite childhood family vacations were to Canada and Florida. As an adult she traveled all over the world, from swimming with dolphins in the Amazon to visiting the Pyramids of Egypt and everything in between. In a parting message to her family Joy says “Love, Travel, Enjoy Much. Stay Happy and Be Happy.”
Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Rhynard, whom she married in Fairfax City, VA, on December 18, 1996. She had many loving nieces and nephews; Richard Ansley, Scott Ansley, Laura Warren, Jim Rhynard, Jill Cothran, Karen Tappert, Eric Thomas, Jon Rhynard, Ronald Ansley, and Lisa Clapper.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at DeVol Funeral Home, Gaithersburg, Maryland, on March 20th at 11:30 am.
