Kenneth David Jones of Gaithersburg, Maryland passed away on Tuesday, May 23, after a two and a half year battle with gastric cancer. To the very end, Ken maintained a deep and abiding faith, a terrific sense of humor, and an incredible capacity to show love and appreciation. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer and their three children, Lydia, Dylan, and Kyle. He is furthermore survived by his parents, David and Dorothy Jones, his sister, Leslie Lenzi and brother-in-law Nicholas Lenzi, his niece Cordelia Lenzi, and nephews, Graham and Miles Lenzi.
Ken was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland. His kindness and helpful nature made him a fantastic discussion leader for their Confirmation and youth programs. Ken had many musical gifts, on occasion lending his voice to the church choir on occasion and, for a period, directing one of their bell choirs. He was a talented clarinetist and pianist and a cast member in many of the church’s musical productions in his youth.
Ken graduated from the University of Maryland in 2002 with a degree in mathematics. He was employed shortly after college by the Macris, Hendricks, and Glascock Civil Engineering firm of Gaithersburg where he earned his professional engineering license in 2016 and became part of the company’s owner/management team. Recently he became the head of MHG’s Environmental Engineering Department. In MHG’s own words, “Ken achieved a breadth of experience, knowledge, and understanding broader than any MHG employee or principal, past or present.”
An avid outdoorsman, Ken loved hiking, biking, camping, and especially skiing. He had recently obtained a boating license and was actively involved in his sons’ scouting endeavors. But by far and away, the thing he enjoyed most was being with family and friends. His quick and ready wit was always on display on these occasions and served him well in all aspects of his life.
Services are planned for June 10, 2023 at 11 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 16420 S. Westland Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
