Heaven gained another angel on Thursday, April 22, 2021, when Madeline DeHaven passed through early in the morning surrounded by the family she loved so much. She lived a full and amazing life spanning 95 years. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with those who loved her dearly. Madeline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Madeline joins her parents (Alex and Helen Kundrick) and her husband (Harry Clifford DeHaven) in Heaven. Madeline is survived by her two children, Mark DeHaven and Tracy McFarland (husband, Daniel McFarland), her 4 grandchildren; Laurie Jones and husband Sven; Daniel McFarland Jr. and wife Rebecca; Eric DeHaven and wife Alisa Trunzo; Greg McFarland and wife Valerie; and her 6 great grandchildren, Daniel, Wyatt, Lilly, Ayden, Phelix, and Autumn.
Madeline was born on February 14th, 1926 in Nemacolin, PA. She lived as an only child with her parents in Nemacolin, until she boarded a bus headed to Washington D.C. Only 18 years old, Madeline wanted to help with the war efforts. So, she worked for the War Department typing the letters of condolence to the families who had lost loved ones during WWII. One story she told us was that the information came on a machine that made a clacking sound and she could still hear that sound at night when she was going to sleep.
After 2 years in College, Madeline went to work for a Newspaper in Pittsburg, PA, where she met the love of her life! Madeline married Harry Clifford DeHaven on February 14th, 1953. They were blissfully married for 56 years before her husband passed on June 6th, 2009. She had her first child Mark Alexander DeHaven in Pittsburg PA. Madeline and her family relocated to Alexandria, VA, where she had her second child Tracy Lee DeHaven (McFarland).
Madeline began working for Army Mutual until her retirement in 1988. Madeline loved listening to music, had a beautiful singing voice, and even sang in a couple of bands. Madeline had a great sense of humor and was often referred to as Ms. Levity by her coworkers.
Madeline felt her greatest role in life began when her first grandchild was born in 1983. Madeline was an amazing grandmother to four grandchildren and took their spouses in as her own when they were married. Her joy in life was complete with the birth of her first great grandchild in 2017, and she spent the last four years of her life welcoming 5 more great children into her loving arms. She enjoyed every family get together where she was able to spend time with the little ones. She was always wanting to take them home with her. Madeline lived a full life right up to the last minute and her family could always count on her unconditional love of each of them. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
