Cordell, as he was known until after leaving Arkansas in the 10th or 11th grade, and I grew up in the same area in North Little Rock. I, too, remember Cordell cutting his leg on the rather rocky grade school basketball court in North Little Rock during recess. No one knew there was broken glass around until Cordell fell on it. Cordell had unique transportation to that grade school. His parents gave him a 'doodle bug' motor scooter. He parked it with all the bicycles. He really enjoyed that scooter. He was the first kid to have motorized transportation. All the rest of my memories of Cordell were very good ones of fun times spent together. We played every sport there was, well, namely basketball, baseball and football. He was a student of all the games. I remember him teaching me how to throw a catcher's peg to second base in a way that cut the time needed to make the throw and how to center the ball to the quarterback so the seams were ready for his finger tips. While still in grade school I recall having a campover when a few friends and I camped out in the woods. Actually, it was barely out of my backyard. Cordell brought his harmonica for entertainment and he even made up a song that night. Cordell and I spent hours playing 'mumblypeg' and 'stretch' with our pocket knives. How times have changed. Today we wouldn't even be allowed to board a plane. How simple life was when we were kids. Cordell was a very dedicated individual his entire life. When young he was dedicated to the games he would play, then as a life long super patriot both in and out of uniform while serving our country and, lastly, as husband, father and grandfather to his family. About seven years ago I was fortunate to be able to rekindle our friendship when I accompanied my spouse to a conference in DC. Cordell came to the hotel and we visited for 2-3 hours and, yes, we had a couple of martinis. I learned how much he loved his family during our visit. He was so proud of his sons and his granddaughters were perfect. Before we parted I asked him if he had arranged for the granddaughters to experience the fun of a 'doodlebug'. He shook his head and said "too dangerous". Thank you Raymond for notifying me of your dad's passing. I wish for you and your brothers and your kids and, especially your mom the strength from God to carry you through this sad time in your lives. Much weight is on your shoulders and your loss is great. May God watch over your family and protect you.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences as your family mourns for Cord. I am truly honored to have known Cord as a friend and mentor for many years. Cord assisted my department, the Texas DPS whenever his expertise was requested and his logical and well thought out advice and mentoring to me during my career was invaluable. Cord had an amazing sense of humor and was willing to share it through stories about his life's experiences, most of which read like a book. He had a profound love and pride for his beautiful and accomplished family and shared photos and stories that exemplified how he felt. In short, Cord was "one of a kind" and there is no doubt that his presence, his heart and his dedication to this country made this world a better place. He certainly made me feel special every time I heard from him. I spoke to Cord shortly before he passed away and the reason was just another testament to his kindness and caring for others. Cord had contacted me to confirm our current address for the purpose of sending us a gift, one of several thoughtful and unique gifts that he had sent over the years. Dear Cord, I know that you are in a better world now, but you will be in my memory. You were a generous and kind-hearted friend and colleague to me. Cord's untimely demise has shaken all of his friends and comrades. We recently talked and agreed to have martinis together soon. Cord taught me a lot about poker when we were trainees together nearly fifty years ago. Cord, I am drinking in your honor and your family is in our prayers.

He was so well liked at DHHS and he was definitely a gentleman, always. Although much time has passed since high school and I didn't see him except on rare occasions at reunions I can truly say he was well liked by both boys and girls. We girls all giggled when we were around him, at least I did-- because he was so "cute" back then. In a more serious note, I'm so sorry for his family as I KNOW he will be greatly missed. Although I've never met any of his family, I want them to know that simple words cannot convey my sorrow for their loss. He was a good man.

Raymond, my heart goes out to you and your loved ones during such a hard time. May the sweet memories of your dad and the love of family and friends sustain you.

Judy and family, please accept our heartfelt sympathies over your great loss. Cordell's passing is deeply saddening to Roselle and me as he was in our wedding as my best man back in 1964. All three of us go back to Walter Johnson High School where Cordell set an outstanding example for all as he did throughout his life.

I worked with Cord at FinCEN. My initial impression of him was that he was a consummate gentleman. I soon learned of his vast experience in intelligence and with the military. He became a supervisor in the Ops Support Division. Because of his wonderful intellect, humor and experience dealing with people he easily navigated the complexities of a multi agency environment. He was a man for all seasons of which their are very few.

We know that Cordell's family and friends will have many fond memories since he was a terrific guy. We may miss him but he will never be forgotten. My wife and I have a prior commitment on Sunday so we will not be able to come to the funeral home. I would love to join his family and friends at Arlington Cemetary if I am in town. We are so sorry to hear of the death of Cord. He was a good writer, researcher, and delightful bon vivant who many of us enjoyed meeting for lunch to hear updates on his fascinating tales which included his visits to Aldrich Ames, of Cordâ€™s career in CIA and elsewhere, and his unique assessments of the profession, its people, and world events. Col. Cordell Hart not only my hero but also my dear friend. I am grateful for what he did in my homeland Vietnam and his tirelessly service in the States. Mr. Hart, we are so proud of YOU.

My heart goes out to the entire Hart family and wish Judy and all the rest of the family the strength they all need thru this very tough period as Cord himself would want for them. I had the privilege of working closely with Cord for many years in civilian and military life. Cord was a true patriot who conducted himself in the most professional way and whose ideas in bettering the organizations he was associated were always outstanding. He was my good friend for more then 30 years. I could not have respected him more and he greatly loved and was proud of his family.

Thanks Raymond for letting us know about Cordell. He was a very close friend as we grew up only a block from each other. We spent a great deal of time together at the fire station on Magnolia Street,much to the disdain of the firemen. One of my fondest memories of Cord is when we were in the 4th grade and we were on the playground at Park Hill school and he cut his leg pretty badly on a piece of glass. Bleeding profusely he asked me to go to the doctor with him so your grandmother and we got in the car and went to the doctor to have it sewed up and on the way he was crying a lot and he reached over and grabbed my hand and squeezed it the whole way. We were "buds" together from that day on. He came by our home a few years ago and we had a long an interesting visit. He had quite a career and while he could not tell me everything, what he could tell me was fascinating. I was very sad when he moved away and I lost contact with him, but we had a great time renewing old memories. We both loved to play the harmonica and used to try and play songs together. We were certainly not ready for Broadway, but who cares! We had fun! I drive by his old house quite often and always think of him when I do. Space won't allow me to share all of memories with your family, but always remember that Cord was one of the closest friends that I ever had and I will miss him greatly. My prayers are with you and the family and I would love to meet all of you someday. Eddie Powell

Cordell was a true man's man! Gifted with great intellect and the ability to express himself, his greatest strength was in his love for his family ... that was always uppermost. He was a fun roommate in college and I always felt our conversations were like two college boys shooting the bull. I miss him as I greatly valued his friendship.
