

On July 20, 2023, in Washington, D.C., died peacefully at Forest HillsRetirement Community. Beloved wife for 63 years of Martin J. Bergin (dec),loving mother of Nathalie Bergin Sullivan and Christine Bergin Whittemore,doting grandmother of Sean, Kelly, and Emma, and great-grandmother ofMolly, Joseph, Lucy, Gavin, and Bergin. Dear sister of Virginia Métais, andaunt to many wonderful nieces and nephews in the US and France.
Nicole Bergin was born in Paris, France in 1927, and was married there in 1950before moving to the United States. With her husband, she lived in Iran,Burundi (central east Africa), Sénégal, and Ivory Coast (west Africa). Nicoletaught French to adults, perfected the art of French elegance and hospitality,and was even interviewed by a young Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy in the early60s about being French in Washington, DC.
After retiring, she designed jewelry, volunteered at Georgetown University Hospital, and knit blankets forneedy children for the Christ Child Society for over 20 years.
