Robert Edward Quinlan, age 85, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2022 in Marietta GA. He was the husband of Maggie Quinlan, father of Kristin Del Rio, Courtney West (Denton), Ann-Marie Trepp (Greg), and David Gang (Erika), and grandfather of eleven. He is also survived by his brother Lawlor Quinlan, and his sisters, Aileen Pritchard and Sr Margaret Mary Quinlan RSM.
Bob has degrees in philosophy, history, law, mediation, and pastoral counseling. He taught at LeMoyne College as a Jesuit scholastic. After leaving the study with the Jesuits, he went to the University of Maryland to study law. He was a sole practitioner for 30 years in Gaithersburg, MD. He later took courses in pastoral counseling and volunteered his skills at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Gaithersburg, MD.
"That's the Ticket", Bob's phrase when things went well. "Ah, well" when things didn't. Words, words, words. Bob used words in his job as lawyer/mediator, when he wrote his short stories and when he wrote Thank You notes. He was best at this and our Williamsburg neighbors still cherish them. Bob was probably the kindest man you will ever meet; Always a smile or tender touch to let you know he was there for you. If you cried he was always there with a hankerchief. You could always count on him! Bob loved to play golf, a sport he learned when he was young. He was blessed to have two holes in one. Cooking was another fun thing for him. His specialty was making Spaghetti Bolognese. His love of spaghetti started young when his mom fed him "sketties" in his high chair. Bob as the oldest of 6, and a future teacher, was the one who taught his siblings everything, i.e. tie shoes, read, play baseball, boxing, and to ride a bicycle. A cottage at Lake Conesus NY, gave the Quinlan kids, the opportunity to learn boating and water skiing. The farm in Batavia NY and the cottage at the lake were glorious times and Bob loved it all.
Memorial Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 1701 Clopper Rd, Gaithersburg, MD on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Washington, 924 G Street NW, Washington, DC 20002. https://www.catholiccharitiesdc.org/
