

Thomas D. Lohrentz, long-time resident of Washington, DC, died February 26, 2025. Tom leaves behind his brother Bill Lohrentz and sister Heather Mullett. Born in 1940 in Geneva, Illinois, he was the the second child of Mary (nee Doughty) and Wilbur L. Lohrentz. Tom was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Georgetown Law school.At law school, Tom won the American Jurisprudence Award and the Dean Hugh J. Fegan Memorial Prize.After law school, he worked for Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn and the National Labor Relations Board.In retirement, Tom continued to write about athletics, law, and the arts, with a special interest in the music, life and career of Glenn Miller and the Glenn Miller Band. An active member of the Washington, DC Road Runners Club, Tom provided pro bono legal advice and contributed articles to its various publications. He alsoworked with the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, the Green Door, the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, the YMCA, and the American Running Association.Loyal and kind-hearted, Tom generated community everywhere he went, through his cheerful way of relating and his genuine interest in people. In later years, Tom was an active, engaged community member at the Residences at Thomas Circle, and spoke highly of the friends he made there. He regularly contributed to its community newsletter, bringing his natural curiosity and creativity to bear on the topics he covered and the people he interviewed. His bright presence will be missed. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
