Died peacefully at his residence in Washington, DC on April 5, 2017 at the age of 99. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 1940, fought in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, and had a distinguished military career which included multiple tours in the Far East and in the United States before retiring in Washington DC. Beloved husband of the late Julie Mattis Camp; loving father of Mary M. McLean of Washington, DC, Ellen M. Decaneas (Antony Decaneas) of Boston, MA and James R. McLean (Jessica McLean) of La Grange, IL; cherished grandfather of Andrew, Mattis and Caroline McLean. COL McLean was predeceased by his brother, Edward C. McLean of Winnetka, IL , his sister, Elizabeth M. Kearney of Mankato, MN and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. McLean of St. Paul, MN. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at the Knollwood Military Retirement Residence, 6200 Oregon Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Army Distaff Foundation, 6200 Oregon Avenue, NW, Washington, DC, 20015. Arrangements by DeVOL.
