Alan Scott McDonald was born on Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the younger of two boys, at Watsonville, California on November 21, 1973 at 4:20am. Alan's biological father is Fred Merle McDonald, and Alan's biological mother is Carol Silva McDonald. Alan's older brother Gary McDonald died Nov. 8, 2008. Gary was 3 1/2 years older than Alan. Alan lived at Watsonville until he was 15 years old. He attended Freedom and Calabasas schools before moving to Salinas.
Alan loved birds of all types; chickens, pigeons, doves, parakeets, geese, ducks and many more. He raised chickens from his hen’s eggs and was quite proud of them. He also raised two goslings and when they were grown he entered his geese at the Santa Cruz county fair and won best goose award that year, not to mention the other ribbons he won on his chickens. His brother and him also raised game cock roosters and at one time had 13 roosters, in all separate cages, of course. Gary would sometimes steal the eggs from Alan's hens and put them with his hens and when the eggs would hatch he would tell Alan that those were his game cock chickens. Alan would buy special game cock mix for his chickens called Declaro game cock mix.
When Alan entered high school he had already moved to Salinas. He attended Washington Junior high where he met his best friend, Manual Castillo. They remained good friends throughout his life. Alan went to North Salinas High and graduated from Salinas Adult School in 1994. Alan has also become very good friends with Lerch. They spoke on the phone daily throughout his life.
Because of Alan's bipolar illness since he was 19 years old he could not work due to the level of medication that he had to take to control his illness. Several times in his life whenever he would stop taking his meds he would have another breakdown and it took several months to stabilize him back to the level he was before he stopped his meds.
Alan moved to Fresno in 1994 until 1998 to be near his mother who was forced to move there to keep her job with AT&T. Alan's mother was transferred again to Sacramento. Alan's mother married James Silva whom she had known for 10 years. Alan had grown up with James's two daughters Jennifer and Christina and was quiet fond of them. They were close to the same age.
James died of liver cancer in 2007 and the following year Carol retired after 40 years with AT&T. She started dating again and married Frank McDonald. The couple along with Alan then moved to Southern California where Alan moved in 2010 to a condo Carol bought him. Alan had never been happier when he moved down south where the weather was beautiful and the vegetables and fruits were plentiful. Alan's neighbors really liked Alan and made him feel very welcome in his new community. Alan had a special talent as he could speak Spanish, very fluently. He would speak to the gardeners and his neighbors in Spanish.
Alan's biological father moved to Washington when his mom divorced in 1979 so his father missed out in a lot of activities Alan had.
Alan will be missed by all the people that he touched in his life.
