Uncle Fred, 
It’s so hard to write something knowing that you’ll never get to read it for yourself. I just wish I could tell you I love you annoyingly over and over again until you were forced to say “I love you too Domonique “ one more time. 
Thank you for being there for all your nieces and nephews when we were growing up! You were always there to watch us when grandma went to the store even though it took 2 hours or when we would have to walk home and you’d be there to open the door for us! 
Thank you for always being there for grandma. She loves and misses you so much Fred. She talks about you with so much love and admiration for you. We will take care of her for you. 
I pray you’re at peace and happy up there uncle Fred.

My heart is still so sad that you aren’t with us anymore. I see you almost everywhere I go and every time I pass grandma’s house I picture you standing outside. Growing up, every time I came home late, I would always walk up my mom’s driveway looking over my shoulder waiting for you to pop out and scare me. I’ll never forget sneaking friends over and thinking we got away with it because no one saw, but you did every single time. You didn’t tell my mom but you told grandma 😂♥️.  In high school when I needed money to go somewhere and my mom wasn’t home she’d say “go ask your uncle Fred if you can borrow money and I’ll give it back to him”… you always said yes, even when you didn’t want to. I’ll forever miss your bear hugs when we all had too much to drink, because that was the only time you ever wanted to show any affection. Everyone laughed, but it made us happy, because you were happy. My favorite memories of you are watching you with the kids. Uncle Fred is the best. You could never say no to any of them and they loved you for that. I think about you constantly and how unfair life can be. You deserved more love, more memories, more company. One thing I know for sure is that you are most definitely loved. I pray that you knew that. I love you, and you will forever be missed ♥️

We grew up together on Mar Les. We picked plums in his backyard and hid in the bushes trying to get Uncle Stevie to come out. We jaywalked 17th St. daily. We ran Newcastle Park, where he would spin us so hard on the merry-go-round. We ate chili billies and watched him play his heart out with a ball and bat, practicing hitting with Uncle Arthur. The sun would set and he would walk me home. My Fredo is my happy place and my safe place. I always knew that Fredo would never let anything bad happen to me and would protect me, even from any big scary dog that looked at me funny. He blessed me with the type of protection that you only get from a big brother. My sweet Fredo, my heart has a constant ache & a piece of my soul will now remain shattered. This just cannot be. I’m looking for you in your usual spots but you are not there. And I haven’t heard your voice in way too long. Fredo has immense insight. And was impossible to fool. Those who underestimated him were, in fact, the fools. Few times did I fall asleep and not wake up with his fingers up my nose. Very funny Fred. Fredo internalized his reality to the deepest parts of his thoughts. And he thought deeply. This shared trait kept us bonded. He, relentlessly, sought out the truth. And he was most secure and comfortable when surrounded with kind authentic people. His intelligence & wit could go unmatched and he never quit righting wrongs. He embraced a modest spot in the background even when we tried to pull him up front. He respected old school values and kept tradition. Our team is forever broken. We will never forget you. I wish I could have made this place more appealing while I had you. I will miss torturing you with affection, forcing you to say that you love me. Thank you for carrying me through the hardest times of my life and celebrating with me through the best. You are one of a kind. I love you forever my Fredo. Goodies never die
Our team of six will always be together for 44 years we had each other.  Growing up as a goonie means climbing trees at grandma's house.  Running to the park after Thanksgiving, going Christmas Caroling every Christmas Eve, and all summer long sleeping under the stars after swimming all day... That's how it was growing up in our goodies group

  I'm a Lil hurt that you get to meet Grandpa Romero before me.  They say he's just like your dad so I know you'll be ok.

My uncle Fred, 
I will forever be grateful that I got to live next to you basically my whole life. That my kids got to see you everyday playing in the yard. I will cherish every time you’d come over just to see what we were doing or ask me what I was making for dinner. The times I would walk over to you across the yard and ask you to season our steaks and you’d tell me “teanna I’ve shown you a lot of times you know what I use.” And I would reply “I know, but you just do it way better than me.” I hope my kids will always remember when they were playing out in the yard and you’d come out and play with them. Spraying them with the water hose, or throwing water balloons with them. Or when we’d be sitting out in front of the tree and you’d come out to sit with us for as long as you wanted before you’d go back inside. I always laugh when I tell people the story of when your elbow was broken and it took you three dang days to go to the doctor. For three days I would ask multiple times a day if you were ready for me to take you to the doctor and you said no every single time and finally you came to me and asked how long it would take and I said not very long they’ll probably do some X-rays and cast you up. Well you ended up in the hospital for 3 days because you had to have surgery. The look on your face when all the nurses and doctors left the room and you said Teanna what the hell you said it was going to be quick! I couldn’t do anything but laugh. Fred it would be an understatement if I just said we miss you. Because we miss you terribly. I was sitting one my couch a few days after your passing and I started to cry. Landon asked if I was sad because I missed you and I told him yes I do buddy and he grabbed my face and said “don’t worry mommy he rose up with Jesus. He is with Jesus now mommy!”We love you so much and will miss you everyday for always. I hope you are happy and at peace. Watch over us down here.  Love you forever 💙

I have so many memories with uncle Fred, from growing up together in the Santa Ana house, to living on the compound with him as an adult. After having conversations with people about Fred and seeing the comments here, I think two things are for sure….he was strong, but gentle and he was a protector.  There was no criteria to earn his protection, he protected whoever he felt was in need of protection at any given time.  When he went into protector mode, his true strength really shined through. 
I think my fondest memories are from our childhood, running around the yard and neighborhood on Mar-les Drive, just being kids.  I also loved when he use to come over to our house when we lived on the compound. He would walk in, with a beer in hand and he didn’t have to say much. He would smile, do his shy little giggle and say “what are you guys doing?” If we were watching tv, he would sit on the fireplace and just quietly watch tv with us. He would hang out for a while and then leave when he was ready. He was a simple man of few words, but that’s part of what made him Fred. I miss that more than anything!! I wish I could just sit with him again. 
He loved his family dearly, you could see it in his face when we all gathered at the compound.  Even if he didn’t participate in volleyball or whatever other game we were playing, he sat and watched with a smile on his face and a look of pride. 
Uncle Fred, we miss you so very much! I wish I would have had more time with you towards the end. I wish I could have explained to you how loved you are and how much we cherish
 you and how special you are. I don’t know if it would have changed anything, but I regret not 
at least trying.  I know you are resting in peace now, still a gentle and simple soul. I know you are with God now, probably still a protector, just from heaven now. I love you and I look forward to seeing you again some day.

My favorite memory of Fred was how much he loved  company he welcomed all, by offering a cup of coffee as a child to an adult always greeted with a hug.  Fred always was very respectful loved God he was the protector of the family who had a watchful eye.  He made me fell safe knowing he was waiting for me to come home  from work late at night.  He truely cared wanting to hear how was my day.  I would talk to him through the bathroom door sometimes I had to ask him fred are you there?   Lol he was quiet but a good listener.  I wish I would have spent more time with you Fred you will be missed.  But I know your in a better place and God has you now your in the right place with the heavenly father flying with the angels you got your wings now, "fly, oh my sweet angel"fly into the sky.,..fly, oh my Angel...forever I'm going yo be by your side...

I love all my brothers and sisters but Fred was special. I love your kind soul and your humble heart. You are strong but fragile. Your stubbornness came out at times because you knew yourself and you were not going to let anyone take you out of that comfort zone. I love that about you but hate it as well because I tried for years to get you to move to Montana but you would not budge. I’m sorry that never happened, Fred. I love you so much and I’m going to miss you. Whenever I think of you, I’m going to see you in paradise with God, with other family members, and with that beautiful smile on your face. Complete happiness. See you in heaven, brother ❤️

My dear brother Fred, I will forever cherish you, our late night dinners, your ceviche craving/making days, our little league days, our volleyball plays and our days on the compound.   I am truly sorry for not being there in the end.   It will be my one regret with you.   I love that you were a simple man and cherished your family and watched over your nieces and nephews.  You will be forever in my heart  and I will always remember your shy beautiful smile.  I have faith that you are at peace and watching over us in a better more beautiful place. Words can not express the pain one feels of losing a loved one! But now I must say thank you for the time I got to spend with you, brother! Your sweet smile! You will forever be missed! I thank you for the conversations we have had throughout our life. You Leave me with a movie  of you n all those precious conversations we had playing  over n over in my head! Again I thank you for that. Brother life will go on without you, but our hearts will forever be changed.  We Will carry a piece of you with us and you will forever be in our heart! I can’t simply say there was one memory that stood out. But I will forever cherish the last five minutes I saw you asking “What’s in those bags?” And all I said was “you look good Uncle Fred.” followed by the infamous chuckle. “You look good too Hopey, but I liked the red hair better, this orange or whatever it is, doesn’t suit you well.” So all I wanted to do was hug you for the honesty and I did and you knew the drill with me as soon as I hugged you, you had to say it “Alright alright Hopey I love you” “I love you too Fred.” 

My uncle was a simple man so all I ever asked of him was a hug and an I love you so every time I saw him I got just that, and I knew every time he meant it, because he loved and cared so much about his family.  I will miss him more than he will know but I know he will always be around watching over me asking “Do you have a boyfriend yet Hopey?” “How’s Aidan? He’s getting so big.” “You look good Hopey.” Always a few words but always filled with care and love.  

I will see you again one day and I know when that day comes you’ll be the happiest ever and I’ll get to tell you about my life and you’ll get to say you watched it all. 

Love you Cousin Fred, I’ll miss you. I’m going to miss coming from Grandpas Emilio’s driving down Brookhurst Street and making my visits to stop by and bug you. I’ll miss Yelling down stairs saying “ Fred come down, Im here” then you’d just peak your head out by the stairs. You’d say what are you doing here? I’d say I came to bug you. 😭 I know it’s not Good Bye it’s see you later. Say Hello to Grandma’ Grandpa’ Cuzzy Mellissa’ My Dad . You left us too soon Fred, but I know will see you again in heaven.
