

Louie Gonzalez Carrasco died peacefully at home on Sunday, the day of our Lord, June 9, 2013. He was born in Los Angeles, California, to Luz and Fernando Carrasco and was raised in Garden Grove, with brothers Anthony, Raymond, Michael, and sister Mary Helen. He was married to Josie Hernandez for 57 years and together they raised a family of five children. His love and affection for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were never-ending.
Louie was a gifted artisan, a meticulous handyman, an exceptional plasterer, and a humble man of undying faith. He graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1942 with skills in agriculture, woodworking and metals. He enjoyed many sports and was a member of the football, basketball, baseball, and track & field teams. Louie was also active in Future Farmers of America. After high school, he was drafted into the armed forces along with his three brothers. He served in the 65th Medical Depot Company of the United States Army during World War II. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. His hobbies included archery, golf, ping pong, woodcrafts, fishing, playing pool, and taking his children to motorcycle races. He was a multiple club champion archer with The Oranco Bowmen and frequented the Pine Tree, Santiago, Willowick, and Riverview Golf Courses. He had an incredible sense of humor. He was a talented guitar player, and beautiful singer. A patient teacher, he taught his children to play the guitar. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Columban’s Catholic Church.
Louie is survived by a large family of whom he was enormously proud and loved deeply: adored wife Refugio “Josie” Carrasco; sons Luis “Louie” Carrasco and Steven Carrasco; daughters Lisa McDermid, Cynthia Carrasco, and Belen Carrasco; grandchildren Angela Carrasco, Luis “Lou-Bud” Carrasco, Michael Carrasco, Erin Ramirez, Elizabeth Butenko, Belen Carrasco-Cazares, Yolyamanitzin Carrasco-Cazares; great-grandchildren Abigail Ramirez, Brooklyn Ramirez and Lucius Carrasco. He entered into Eternal Life with his beloved granddaughter Ylaria Carrasco-Cazares, brothers Anthony and Raymond, and sister Mary Helen.
