He was survived by his wife Yang Sosa, his mother Zoyla Ackerman, his stepfather Alejandro Rico, his sisters Alma Villanueva and Sylvia Rincon and 2 nieces and 7 nephews and a large extended family.
Eric was a remarkable soul whose kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and adventurous spirit touched everyone he met. He had an infectious joy for life and brought warmth to all around him.
Eric’s love for travel was unmatched. He was always eager for his next adventure, seeking to immerse himself in new cultures, languages, traditions, and cuisines. The outpour of love we have received from his friends across the globe is a testament to his ability to form lasting and meaningful relationships, no matter where he went.
Eric's passion for teaching was evident in everything he did. As an educator, mentor, and friend, he shared his light and enthusiasm with all his students, always putting their needs first. He believed in the power of learning, not just as a way to acquire knowledge, but as a way to connect with people from all walks of life. His travels and his love for education took him around the world, where he created bonds that will never be forgotten.
Eric also had a deep love for animals. He was always compassionate toward them, even going so far as to nurse a porcupine back to health. His kindness and empathy for all living creatures were qualities that defined him as a person.
His love for life extended to so many areas. He had a true gift for gardening, nurturing life with the same care and attention he gave to the people around him. His enthusiasm for real estate and investing led him to become a licensed broker, where he used his expertise to help family and friends find their homes.
Above all, Eric was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband to Yang, a thoughtful son to Zoyla, a supportive brother to Alma and Sylvia, and an unwavering source of strength for his extended family and friends. His laughter, his generosity, and his ability to make everyone feel loved will be missed deeply.
A celebration of Eric’s life will be held on Friday, January 24th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Lighthouse Memorial Center in Gardena. We invite all who loved him to join us in honoring his memory. Eric’s passing is a tremendous loss for all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
