Alma Gardner Cloninger

A native of Gastonia, she was the daughter of the late William and Martha Gardner.

Mrs. Cloninger was the oldest living member of Loray Baptist Church where she was an active member of WMU. She retired from Matthew Belk.

She is survived by her children, Dennis Cloninger and wife Sally of Gastonia, Teena Barnes and husband Woody of Lyman, SC, Gay Sprankle and husband Marty of Kailua, HI; grandchildren, Lisa Cloninger and partner Kathleen Smith, Kelly Fijalkowski and husband Anthony, Laura Taylor and husband Mike, Jake Beam, Kyle Barnes and wife Sara, Alicia Menas and husband Jeff; 8 great grandchildren; niece, Sylvia Gardner Lewis; long term caregivers, Carolyn Wilson, Stacey Waters, Denise Brannon, and Angie Yarbrough.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dennis B. Cloninger Sr.; sisters, Pearl Gardner, Ruth Gardner, Verlyn Hall; brothers, Bill Gardner, Ray Gardner; and great grandson, Adam Boyd Taylor.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday at Loray Baptist Church with Dr. Kent Cranford and Rev. John Bridges officiating.

Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 pm Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
