Bobby “Bob” Lackey, 90, passed away after an extended illness. Bob is a Gaston County native. He was an extremely loving husband and his wife, Betty (Heavener) Lackey, said she will miss the closeness she felt with him in their 70+ year marriage. Bob was a quiet man, but when he spoke it was profound. He was active in the Masons achieving 32nd degree status. He was a Lodge Master in the Gastonia Lodge. Bob was active in Myrtle United Methodist Church and he won a Laity Award. Bob will be dearly missed by many.
Bob is the son of the late Bryte (Anthony) Lackey and Charles Milton Lackey. His son, David Wayne Lackey preceded him in death after only seven months. His older brother, Ray Lackey, passed in World War II and his two other brothers, Allen Lackey and Gene Lackey have also preceded him in death.
Left to cherish her memories of Bob are his wife of 70 years, Betty (Heavener) Lackey. Bob leaves behind numerous great nieces and nephews. Bob’s extended family is also grieving his loss.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday July 24th, 2021 in the Veteran’s Garden of Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 S. New Hope Drive, Gastonia. Pastor Gerald Ramsey, of Myrtle UMC, will officiate.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Bob’s name to Myrtle UMC, P.O. Box 1285, Gastonia, NC 28052.
