Daniel is survived by five children, Dan Hughes and wife Donna of Gastonia, Randy Hughes of Lincolnton, Janice Smith of Belmont, Michael Hughes of Lincolnton, and Joyce Hughes of Belmont; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his wife, Janice Ogden Hughes and 13 older siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday at Carothers Funeral Home, 312 West 2nd Ave. Gastonia. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with military honors.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
