In 1954, she moved to Brooklyn, NY. In 1955, she married Charles L. Roy and had five children. Doris retired from the NYC Transit Authority as Assistant Station Supervisor. In February of 1990, she and Charles relocated to Shelby, NC. In 1993, they volunteered as Amtrak Train Host in Charlotte and the American Red Cross of Cleveland County, and was a member of Dover YMCA of Cleveland County. She returned to Gastonia in 2003 and attended St. Stephens AME Church, joining AARP Chapter 2010.
Doris loved to travel, having traveled to Spain, Hawaii, Tangiers Africa and many parts of the Caribbean. She enjoyed listening to all kinds of music-especially jazz, along with cooking and spending time with the family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Roy; son, Charles Jason Roy and brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marion Hewitt.
She is survived by her son, Ricky R. Roy; daughters, Pamela Roy Watkins (Tyrone), Keturah Z. Roy and Naaweth Roy; grandchildren, Elijah T. Littlejohn, Yasmine Tinker (Tam); five great grandchildren, Elijah T. Littlejohn, II, Hailey E. Littlejohn, Victoria A. Littlejohn, Henry E. Echols, and Adalynn R. Tinker and a host of family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, December 17, 2021 in the Dogwood Room at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 18, 2021 in the Cardinal Hall with visitation held one hour prior to the service. The Dr. Rev. Benjamin Hinton will be officiating. A committal service will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
