Edna Reel Young

Edna Reel Young, 90, of Gastonia, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Covenant Village, Gastonia with her loving family by her side. She was born in Kannapolis and was the daughter of the late Edgar P. and Nannie Henderson Reel.

Mrs. Young was a member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Women of the Church. She was a former precinct judge for the Republican Party in Mecklenburg County and a former President of the American Field Service, Charlotte. She loved caring for children, cooking, water aerobic and biking.

Mrs. Young is survived by one son, Steven K. Young and wife Lisa of Marietta, Georgia; two daughters, Susan Y. Helms and husband Dean of Savannah, Georgia, Kathryn Y. McDowell and husband Jeffery of Slidell, Louisiana; two brother-in-laws, Keith Young and wife Kat and Rodney Young of Gastonia; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 67 years, Raymond Kenneth Young; two brothers; three sisters.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 13, 2013 at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mt. Holly Road, Charlotte and the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a. m. prior to the Celebration of Life Service.
