A husband, father, and grandfathers love runs deep, spreads wide and is the tap root that delivers nourishment to his family… This legacy was designed by God and followed by Elmer Franklin “Frank” Mathis who went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. Frank was a family man who had a calming voice of reason and a hugger to soothe your anxiety. A man who loved spending time on the lake fishing and jet skiing. A man who’s blood ran blue… Carolina basketball Blue… He also loved the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Braves. Frank spent his working days in the textile industry where he started out sweeping floors and proved his value as he rose up the ranks as a supervisor and plant manager. He was mechanically minded in the machinery he was responsible and more.
Frank was the son of the late Horace David Mathis and Effie Eades Mathis. He was preceded in death by a son Larry Mathis; one sister: Irene Moore and one brother: Marvin Mathis.
Those left behind to cherish his memories and continue his legacy are his wife of 65 years, Geraldine Teague Mathis of the home; one daughter and son in law: Donna and David Huggins of Dallas, North Carolina; two sons and daughter in laws: Frank Sr and Sherri Mathis of Greenwood, South Carolina; Scott and Terry Mathis of Dallas, North Carolina; one brother: Kenneth Mathis of Dallas, North Carolina; brother in law: Gary Teague, Sr of Gastonia, North Carolina; nine grandchildren and spouses: Lindsey and Craven Walden, Matt and Ashleigh Huggins, Lisa and Brett Withers, Allison Mathis, Frank Jr and Steffanie Mathis, Michael Mathis, Kelly and Chuck Padget, Madison Mathis and Samuel Mathis; six great grandchildren: Sarah Mathis, Madden Padget, Brandon Bryson, Michael Mathis, Justin Mathis and Ashton Laughlin.
