Jean Short Barber

Jean Short Barber of Clover, SC went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2016 at home with her family by her side. Jean was known to most as “Nana”. She was born July 3, 1931 to the late Joseph Broadus and Sarah Elizabeth (Sally) Green Short. Jean’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Thank you to all her friends who prayed for her, visited and sent cards of encouragement.

Jean is survived by her ex-husband, Aron E. Barber of York, SC, daughters, Debbie Jenkins (Billy) of Clover, SC and Wendy Wade of China Grove, NC; grandson, Michael Jenkins (Tracey) of Lake Wylie, SC and Brent Jenkins (Sheri) of Clover, SC; great-grandchildren, Devin Jenkins (Taylor) of Clover, SC, Drake Jenkins, Andrew Conn and Madison Conn of Lake Wylie, SC; one great-great-grandson, Carson Jack Jenkins of Clover, SC.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Lee Short, Earl G. Short and Fred L. Short and one sister, Lois Short Isenhour Freeman.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Dr., Gastonia, NC. Pastor Lewis Gunn Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. All other times will be at the home of Debbie & Billy Jenkins of Clover, SC.

The family wishes to thank Hospice Care of SC for their wonderful service to their family over the past months. A special thank you goes to Barb McGoye, Angela Hall and Vernon Thornhill for their regular visits, prayers and friendship.
