

Mary Louise Truett, 95, passed away after a brief illness on February 6, 2016. She was born August 21, 1920 in TN to the late Raleigh and Vietta (Sellers) Self. Mary will always be remembered by everyone as being the best cook in the world. She loved baking cakes and cooking any meal for her children. They were fortunate to eat her “best ever homemade biscuits”. She was a hard working mother who loved to garden, can vegetables, make her own butter and babysit for the grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Melvin Truett of Gastonia, NC, Cecil Truett and wife Linda of Bellwood, NC, Floyd Truett and wife, Gloria of Bessemer City, NC, Dale Truett of Gastonia, NC, Evelyn Colvin and husband, Charles of Cherryville, NC, Bonita Loos and husband, Mark of Rockwell, NC, Brenda Johnson of Gastonia, NC; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great grandchildren; sister, Polly of Maryville, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Truett, son, Landas Truett, daughter, Martina Truett; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 1 great-great grandchild.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park. Reverend Robert Sneed will preside. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
