Mercedes Aurelia Torres

A lady who was religious and proud of her Catholic faith… Living her life with an upbeat, joyful and happy demeanor… In her eyes her grandchildren that she loved to take care of and who called her “MA” did no wrong… These are only a few of the accolades of Mercedes Aurelia Torres who passed away at the age of 75 on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas Rodriguez and Zoila Maria Pichardo Rodriguez. She was preceded in death by a sister Marcia Romero and brother Papo Rodriguez.

Mrs. Torres loved to cook…It was obvious that she prepared her meals with Love because you could taste it… Sewing was a large part of her life too…. She loved watching her Novelas and movies… To add, Mercedes was very supportive to her daughters.

Those left to cherish the memories of Mercedes are her daughters and sons-in-law: Johanna Pichardo and Hector of Gastonia, North Carolina, Karen Menting and Johan of Lantana, Texas, Grace Torres of Gastonia, North Carolina; two beautiful granddaughters: Melany and Emma; five wonderful grandsons: Miguel, Emmanuel, Leonardo, Alejandro and Diego; her sister: Nurys Rodriguez; brother: Thomas Rodriguez; brother-in-law: Carlos Romero along with several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass Celebrating the Life of Mercedes will be conducted at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Saint Michael Catholic Church with Father Matthew Buettner officiating. Pallbearers are Miguel, Emmanuel, Leonardo, Alejandro, Diego, Hector and Johan.

Inurnment and committal service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Gaston Memorial Park 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054.
