Peggy McFarland Harrill, 83 passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Peggy was born September 26, 1935 in Rutherford County to the late William Thomas McFarland and Cary (Selvey) McFarland.
Peggy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was a member of Flint Groves Baptist Church. In previous years she taught Sunday School and served as a youth leader. She lovingly served and directed the church nursery for over 20 years, touching the lives of many children. She had faithfully volunteered in the Family Life Center welcoming people.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Pam Grindstaff and husband, Ronnie, of Gastonia, Kenneth Harrill of Gastonia and Bill Harrill and wife Jeanne of Gastonia; sisters, Martha Jean McFarland of Forest City, NC, Lottie June McAbee of Gaffney, SC and Mary Jane Hinkle of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Nicole, Josh, Kelly, Erica, Courtney, and Presley; great-grandchildren, Madalyn, Morgan, Kenzie, Matthew, Gavin, Gabby, Avry, Elyn and Kenley.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Kenneth Vance Harrill; grandson, Kenneth Michael Harrill; and sister, Margaret Rollins.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 28, 2019 at Flint Groves Baptist Church in Gastonia. Reverend Ronnie Bowers will preside. Graveside and committal will follow at 3:00 PM at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, 720 Old US 74 in Bostic NC.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Flint Groves Baptist Church Harrill Scholarship Fund.
