

Dwain was born on May 23, 1942 in Mocksville, North Carolina to the late William Franklin Furches and the late Dora Lucille Furches. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Dora Furches; close cousin, Earl Furches of Mocksville, NC; and loving niece, Danielle Barrier Harmon of Memphis, TN.
Dwain attended Lenoir Rhyne College and later joined the US Army where he did Teletype Repair for the 5041 Signal Corps. He was headquartered with the 59th Ordinance Group and was a part of Advanced Weapons Support Command for 5 nuclear sites in West Germany. After leaving the Army, he worked and proudly retired from NCR.
Left to carry on his legacy are his children, Dana Furches Carpenter of Gastonia, NC and David Brian Furches (Laura) of New Hill, NC; grandchildren, Will Carpenter of Raleigh, Sam Furches and Issac Furches of New Hill, NC; sister, Reba Ann Furches of Hendersonville, NC; treasured neighbors and friends, Danny and Vicki Craig, Todd Sarvis; and brothers in arms, Duane Spencer of Rochester, Minnesota and Gregory Douglas of Charlottesville, VA.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, Spetember 15, 2024 from 2:00 PM-2:45 PM at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Dr, Gastonia, NC 28054. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Funeral Home’s Chapel. A committal service will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
