Barbara Jo Marion Byrd, beloved mother and grandmother, at age 79, peacefully joined our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born on June 19, 1945, in Austin, Texas. Growing up in Austin, Barbara attended St. David’s Church, Robert E. Lee Elementary, Baker Junior High School and Stephen F. Austin High School. Her family was very proud of her when she obtained a real estate license.
Barbara met the love of her life, Chapman, and they were married at the young ages of 19 and 22 respectively. Their marriage lasted for 51 years until parted by Chapman’s passing eight years ago. Barbara and Chapman were always together and shared everything. Barbara often shared that Chapman was the love of her life, gave her a great life and fulfilled her prayers and dreams to be home with her children. Chapman was devoted to her which was apparent to all who knew them.
Barbara’s heart and soul was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Her greatest accomplishment was being a loving mother. She showed her love by always putting her children first, supporting them, and expressing her love for them. She loved God and instilled in her children a foundation in God.
Barbara had a special close bond with her mother, Josephine Marion and her sister, Sandra Marion. She loved them dearly and made them an integral part of her family. Her mother resided with her and Chapman for 26 years until her passing. She and her mother treasured each other. Barbara adored her and referred to her as her Angel.
Besides being a loving and devoted mother, Barbara was an incredible and gifted cook. She enjoyed sharing her gifts with others by often entertaining at her home. She was a talented gardener where every plant she touched flourished. Her landscaping would “stop traffic.” Barbara also had wonderful style in clothing and decorating. After Barbara’s children left home, she poured her love into her precious dogs who were her “fur babies.” She loved all animals and took excellent care of them. Barbara also loved all children, dancing, music, laughing, birthdays, holidays and going to the beach and on cruises.
Barbara’s light was the brightest when she became a grandmother. Her grandchildren were the center of her world. During her last days, the sight of them brought her immense joy.
Barbara is survived by her “beloved son,” Mark Chapman Byrd, her “china doll” daughter, Brandy Leigh Byrd Hallford (and husband Jerry Hallford), her “precious baby” daughter, Brittany Clair Byrd Kruse, and her grandchildren Jerald William Hallford (wife Traci), Brodie Fitzgerald Hallford (wife Ashlyn), Devon Charles Hallford, Hope Julia Hallford, Lauren Josephine Kruse and John Chapman Kruse. She is also survived by her sister, Sandra Marion and her nephew, Travis Marion.
Barbara expressed happiness to be united with her husband and her mother.
A private memorial service was held on February 17, 2025, celebrating Barbara's life.
