

A native of the Grays Bend community near Centerville, Tennessee, Billy was the son of the late Clayton B. Maddox and Era Luckett-Maddox. Billy was the brother of the late John M. Maddox, Harder D. Maddox and Joseph E. Maddox all of whom were raised in Grays Bend.
Billy leaves behind children, Gary and wife Amy Maddox, Lillian and husband Edward Barnett, and Tosca Maddox and husband Martin Schober. Billy leaves behind the “Loves of his Life” grandchildren, Lauren, Justin, Troy, Nadya, Samantha, Caitlin, Shane, Amber and Krystal. Billy also leaves behind numerous and much loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Billy was born and raised on a farm in Grays Bend. He graduated from Hickman County High School in 1950. Billy served 27 years in the United States Army, including several tours during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Billy retired from the Army in 1975 as a Command Sergeant Major (E-9) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He worked in the construction field for several years afterwards and also assisted in Johanna’s restaurant career.
Billy and Johanna moved to Florence, Texas in 1995. He spent the remainder of his life raising grandchildren and assorted livestock. Billy was able to travel to several bucket list destinations such as Australia, Alaska, Germany and various other sites to be seen around the U.S., including as many trips back home to Grays Bend as he could manage.
Billy and Johanna’s cremains will be joined together and laid to rest. A portion will be placed in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas with full Military honors on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. A second portion of the cremains will be taken to the Grays Bend Cemetery near Centerville, Tennessee and a third tribute will be paid at the Atlantic Ocean off of the North Carolina Coast.
