

Chester Paul Dereng, born October 26, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois was released into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 27, 2017 in Georgetown, Texas. He was the son of Anna and Lawrence Ec, immigrants from Poland. At the age of 3, his parents died and Paul and Helen Derengowski adopted him…later changing their name to Dereng.
At the age of 17, he was called to serve in World War II as a medic working with a plastic surgeon. After a promotion to Hospitalman Apprentice 1st class, he assisted police as an ambulance driver for highway emergencies. While in College, he was called again to serve in the Korean War. After the war he received his B.S. in Biology and Chemistry. He entered the Marine Corps Officer Candidate program. He later received his Masters Degree in Business Management from the Monterey Naval Postgraduate School. As a major, he was deployed to Vietnam. Chester served our nation faithfully for 32 years.
Chester was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks progressing through the officer chairs to become the Exalted Ruler of Sacramento Lodge #6 and then State Vice President North Central District.
Chester was a man who was fully dedicated to his God, country, and family. He was highly regarded and respected by his troops and fellow officers, deeply loved by his family and friends, and will be missed greatly.
Chester is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Angeline Moana Dereng; son, Kendall Chester Dereng; sister, Irene Howells; and brother, William Krol.
Survivors include three daughters, Anita Lopez and husband John of Waldport, Oregon, Lynne Thompson of Texarkana, Texas, and DeVon Hughes and husband Allen of Georgetown, Texas; daughter-in-law, Sue Dereng of Georgetown, Texas; ten grandchildren, Paul Hughes, Tiffany Hughes-Warren, Tina Breen, Michael Thompson, Steven Lopez, Debbie Kerrigan, John Paul-Lopez, Ronnie Lopez, Vicky Lopez, and Ryan Dereng; and 16 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Friday, the 3rd of February 2017 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 4th of February 2017 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home. Internment will take place at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
