
Dana “Sean” Shurtleff, 34, returned to his heavenly home on Saturday morning, July 30, 2016 after an 8 month courageous battle with brain cancer. He passed away surrounded by family and friends. His devotion to his family and our Heavenly Father supported him through his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Sean was born to Dana Charles Shurtleff and Paula Clark on May 26, 1982 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. His father Dana taught him the importance of hard work, God and family, treating women with respect, helping those who are less fortunate, and striving in all that one can do for a better life. He went to Dallas Baptist University, where he met Anna, his wife, and then graduated undergraduate with honors from John Brown University. In 2007 he completed a Master’s in Government from Regent University with honors. He passionately worked for seven years at Texas Sunset Commission as a policy analyst. Sean was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support and passion. He was an active member of Grace Covenant Church in Austin, Texas, where he and his family attended for 4 years.
Sean is survived by his loving wife, Anna Elizabeth, of 11 years; his children, William Sean Shurtleff, four years old, and Elizabeth Grace Shurtleff, one years old; his brothers, Jason and Daniel Shurtleff; his father and mother-in-law, Rev. Norman and SanJuanita Lance of Ravenna, Texas; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Sam Lance, Dr. Sarah Johnson, Caleb Lance and spouses, Mary Jane, Dr. Dave Johnson, and Sarah Catherine; his Uncle Jack Mueller, Aunt Mary and Uncle Hugh Rhoades, Uncle Chuck and Debbie Bridwell and their children.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Grace Covenant Church in Austin, Texas with Pastor Robert Morris officiating. Graveside services will follow at 12:00 P.M. at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be Amar Rama, Jack Osborne, Tim Dale, Jeff Foucart, Robert Romig, Steven Ogle, Joey Reed and James Daniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Simpson, Peter Vreugdenhil, Dan Hernberg, Ryan Cochran, Brad Reagan and Patrick Smith.
His family would like to thank MD Anderson Brain and Spine Center, Christopher’s Hospice House Staff and many countless individuals who have supported them on this adventure.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Sean’s name.
