

MSgt. Donald James Nichols, Sr., 83, of Liberty Hill, Texas, passed away on the 28th of July 2012 with his family by his side after a long courageous battle with cancer. Don was born in Denison, Texas on the 24th of August 1928 to the late Holmes and Lela Nichols. Don honorably served his country in the US Army for 22 years during which he served in Korea and Vietnam.
He is preceded in death by his son, Marine L/CPL Michael W. Nichols and a sister Mina Bernice Nichols.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Robbie Jo; their two sons, Donald J. Nichols, II and wife Donna and John S. Nichols and Lynise Marshall; and a brother, Holmes Lee Nichols and wife Opal. Don also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous other family and friends. He may have passed from this world, but his love, legacy and spirit will live on through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 3rd, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill, Texas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donald J. Nichols, III, Ty L. Nichols, Daniel L. Smith, Kolter Vinton, Hunter Pokorny, Houston Pokorny, Jared Taylor, Austin Nichols and Travis Nichols.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Don’s name may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Projects (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
