

This beautiful woman was born in Yoakum, Texas and raised in Houston. She was married to her beloved, J.C. Byrd, in Lawton Oklahoma in 1947 and they were married 61 years until he passed in 2008. She was a Federal Reserve auditor in Houston.
Dorothy was the loving mom to Beverly Byrd Zinser and Carolyn Byrd Lelong Ali from Shreveport, Louisiana. She touched the lives of many with her love, kindness and understanding. Dorothy was the beloved Girl Scout Leader of troop 288 from Brownies until they graduated from Northwood High School. They all loved her and many felt she was their surrogate mom. She was also the tennis coach at Northwood for a number of years and an active volunteer with cheerleading, band practices, and all the sports events. She continued to play tennis well into her seventies and continued to watch all matches from the sidelines on T.V. until her last days on earth.
During her time in Georgetown, she was an active member of the Worship Place in Sun City and before that, the First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Beverly Zinser, DDS and Carolyn Ali, RPSGT, RRT and their husbands, Steele Zinser and Chuck Ali; two grandchildren, Jon Paul Lelong and Celeste Lelong Santillano; and one great grandchild, Charlie Lelong. She also had extended family members in Arkansas, Oregon and Utah who loved her and loved by her.
A Celebration of Dorothy's Life will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the family's Salado Creek Ranch in Florence.
A sincere thank you from her family to all the caring doctors, nurses, staff and chaplains at Scott & White in Round Rock who gave care and support throughout her final days.
