Elizabeth Davis McBride passed away peacefully at her residence in Georgetown, Texas on October 24, 2013. She was born April 21, 1920 in Warrenton, NC to George William and Elizabeth Jones Davis and was the fourth of five children in the family. Elizabeth spent many happy times in Warrenton which she described as a bit like Mayberry. She especially had fond memories of her uncle's drug store.
When she was in grade school the family moved to Louisville, Kentucky and years later she met Walter Liddell McBride at the Fort Knox Officers Club in 1942. They married in 1943, had two daughters, Betsy and Anne, and spent most of their married life in Atlanta, Georgia until Walter passed away in 1986. She subsequently moved to Galveston, TX for 10 years and then on to Georgetown, TX.
After Walter's death she continued to enjoy life including volunteering at the Episcopal Church Thrift Shop in Buckhead, GA for over twenty years. She was an excellent bridge player, an avid reader and loved the game of golf. Elizabeth enjoyed travels with her family to Italy, England, Hawaii and other locations. She was a sweet person who made others feel special. Her family will miss her very much.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Clymer and her fiancee, Tom Burns of Dayton, Ohio and Anne Bentley and her husband Jim Bentley of Georgetown, Texas. Also four grandchildren: Marco Lynn Anderson and husband Brian of Richmond, TX, Ashley Bashore and husband Todd of Plainsboro, NJ, Elizabeth Jones and husband Dominic of Siesta Key, FL and J.W. Bentley and wife Robin of Dallas, TX. She was delighted to be the great grandmother to Cody and Austin Anderson, Cate and William Bashore, Avelyn and Piper Jones and Connor and Morgan Bentley. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Maryanna Turner of Charlotte, NC and Eva Curry of Tallahassee, FL, who she often said were more like sisters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Walter, siblings: George, Nan, Bee and Mary Pettway and her son-in-law William L. Clymer. A memorial service is planned for Monday, November 4th at St. Phillips Episcopal Cathedral in Atlanta, GA at 10 a.m. The family wishes to thank Texas Home Hospice for their support and guidance during the past eight months.
