Farley David Karas, age 88, of Georgetown, TX, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, with his loving wife and eldest daughter by his side. Farley (aka “Bunny”) was born on January 3, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska. He married the love of his life, Marva Jane Forbes, in 1956 and together they raised 6 children.
Farley joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and was stationed in Germany for a portion of his enlistment. After his military service, he was hired by IBM where he had a very successful career in computer technology. He was part of the team that developed the first IBM personal computer for commercial use. It is worth mentioning that Farley began his career with only a high school diploma, but received excellent on-the-job training and was able to excel and provide for his family.
In addition to computers, he pursued a wide variety of hobbies and interests over the years, including electronics, photography, astronomy and space exploration, and antique collecting to name a few. He was highly intelligent and had an inquisitive mind. He enjoyed watching sporting events on TV with Marva, rooting for their favorite college and professional teams. He was an avid walker and only stopped this favorite pastime when he was no longer physically able. He would walk for many miles, no matter the weather. He was also passionate about yard work. Some might call him “obsessed” when it came to caring for his lawn and gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Marva Karas; children Cindy Kuglin, Kae Parker, Colleen Wohlford, Diane Karas, and Scott Karas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Etta Karas; siblings, William and Lillian Karas; son-in-law, Robert Kuglin; son and daughter-in-law, David Karas and Patricia (Peters) Karas; and great-grandson, Corbin Reyes.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Farley David Karas will be held on Monday, January 27, at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Dr., Georgetown, TX (Viewing 11:00-1:00; Service 1:00-2:00).
A graveside service will be held the following day, Tuesday, January 28, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 Fort Hood Street, Killeen, TX, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
