Helen was born to George Gladden White and Myrtle Frances Landrum White, September 27, 1920 in her Grandma Landrum’s house, south of the San Gabriel River near Liberty Hill, Texas. She married the love of her life, Walter Jr. Whitted, July 21, 1940, and they kept their marriage a secret for two weeks before telling the whole family. Helen and Walter lived on Brockman Drive in Austin, Texas for many years.
Helen spent some of her years teaching school in Williamson County and for Austin ISD. She finished her working years with the IRS. After her retirement, she enjoyed her time at home with Walter – gardening, reading, sewing and crocheting. Her grandchildren enjoyed spending summer days at their home playing dress-up with her clip on earrings, clomping around in her hi-heeled shoes and getting to eat as much Blue Bell ice cream as they wanted!
Helen spent her last 15 years living in Liberty Hill in a small house on family property where she continued to enjoy her large family. She was content with reading her daily newspaper, many books, watching local news and The Wheel of Fortune. Helen attended the Liberty Hill United Methodist Church for as long as her health allowed. She was appreciative of the many meals and visits from the kind Meals on Wheels volunteers.
Helen and Walter had four children: George “Skipper” Whitted and wife Wanda (dec.) of Tennessee; Judy Van Ness of Shreveport, LA; Mike Whitted and wife Nora (dec.) of Liberty Hill, Texas; and Peggy Mueller and husband Morgan of Grapeland, Texas. She has 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Walter and two sisters Dean Peugeot and Pen Calloway.
