Hildegard Wolfe, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024 in Georgetown, Texas. She was born December 20, 1929 in Munich, Germany to Luise and Ludwig Strohmeier, the fourth of ten children. Her father remarried after the death of Hilde’s mother and had an additional three children. She experienced many of the hardships and atrocities of WWII, having many stories to tell, yet she always managed to count her blessings and express her faith along the way. Because most everything was bombed, she never got to fulfill her dream of becoming an airline stewardess. Her father selected her career for her as a tailor/seamstress.
While working for the US Army at Dachau in 1949, she met her future husband, Keith Wolfe, who was stationed there. They married in Munich in 1952. Because of the bureaucratic red tape involved in being able to join him as a foreign national, she had to remain behind while he had to report back to the US. She was finally able to join him in early 1953. During her husband’s tours of duty, they lived in Ft. Bragg, NC, Ft. Rucker, AL, and various other duty stations in Germany. Upon retirement, they lived in Ozark, AL, then moved to Prairie Grove, AR and eventually settled in Georgetown, TX.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and devoted to her family, Hilde loved gardening, sewing, fishing, and was a wonderful cook. She was always generous and gracious and had a ready smile, no matter what difficulties or circumstances befell her. She will truly be missed by all.
Hilde is survived by her daughter Elsa Ellis (Larry), daughter Anita Christensen (Jerry), son Michael Wolfe (Dianna), and son Timothy Wolfe (Shari). She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Rebecca Wolfe, Benjamin Wolfe, Darby Ellis (Aimee), Larisa Grensted (CJ), Taylor Wolfe, Jenee Jagoda (Daniel), and Cameron Wolfe. In addition, she has six great grandchildren: Kaylen Wolfe, AJ Wolfe, Koen Wolfe, Oliver Ellis, Chloe Grensted, and Leah Grensted. She has four surviving siblings, her sister in law Bonnie Myers, and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the Atlantic.
Hilde was predeceased by husband Keith, her parents and most of her siblings.
Hilde’s family wishes to thank Lucille Hernandez who cared for her, Tiffin House Assisted Living and Memory Care, as well as Hope and Grace Hospice for all the loving care she received.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tiffin House, or Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund in Georgetown, TX.
