

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, moving to Branson, Missouri for most of his childhood. He entered Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, Missouri at the age of 12 graduating in 1971. Howard was commissioned into the Army in 1973 and enjoyed a distinguished military career retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1997. His most notable contributions included becoming an Army Aviator, Rotary Wing, serving as an instructor pilot and flying missions in Desert Storm, serving as company commander at Fort Rucker, Alabama and Fort Hood, Texas. He was then assigned to the Defense Mapping Agency Fairfax, Virginia and returned to Fort Hood for a second tour before his retirement. He also distinguished himself by graduating from The U.S. Naval War College earning an additional Master’s degree in National Security and Policy Administration in 1989. His military awards included: The Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (second award), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Sr. Army Aviator Badge, Airborne Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
After retiring from the military, Howard entered into Real Estate helping thousands of families attain their real estate dreams and goals until full retirement in 2016. He was ranked as one of the top 16% of agents in the Austin area for successfully selling homes. Credentials included ABF, GRI, CRS, E-Pro. He received numerous awards from Remax Association and became Broker/Owner for Hill Country Realty. (Awards include 100% Club, Platinum Club, Chairman’s Club, Lifetime Hall of Fame)
Howard was a vibrant, energetic and passionate person. He had many interests including sports, cooking, animals, gardening, playing the ukulele, and most of all his family. His family best remembers him with words from Teddy Roosevelt as the Man in the Arena… “Who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
Left to honor and cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Dr. Christene Vela Nemetsky; children, Michael, Alex, Austin and wife Kathy; grandchildren, Cailie, Cadence, Emitt, and Bruce; sisters, Frances Todd and husband Ron and Ilene Gauntlett and husband Chuck; as well as numerous cousins and extended family and friends. His daughter, Amanda Nemetsky, his mother and father, Irene Howard and Alexander Nemetsky, and a sister, Nancy Stoddard preceded him in death.
A graveside service with Full Military Honors will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials may be sent to the Georgetown Animal Shelter.
