

James Darrell Johnson was the first born of 10 children, the son of Finis Henry (Bub) and Ellen Irene Johnson. Growing up, Darrell broke horses for individuals to ride and competed in bronc riding in rodeos.
Darrell graduated from Liberty Hill High School in 1950 and then joined the Navy to serve his country during the Korean War. He was assigned to the USS Essex and stationed in the Guam Islands.
After his stint in the service he went to work for the Old Muny Golf Course in Austin and became a scratch golfer.
He then went to work for the Comptrollers Office for 30+ years. After retiring from the State of Texas, he moved to Georgetown where he played golf and spent the remainder of his life. Darrell leaves a son, Craig Johnson; grandson, Reed Johnson; siblings, Judy McMillan (Mark), Donnie Johnson, Wanda Champion, Ken Johnson (Joan), Paul Johnson, Wilma Bernardini, and Bobby Johnson (Maureen). He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Frances Holmes and Lyndon Johnson.
Darrell spent his final years in the Delaney with their staff of excellent personnel. Much beloved by all he was never a complainer or hard to get along with during his final years. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service for Darrell will be held Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 10:00 am at Hopewell Cemetery, 2810 CR 285, Liberty Hill, TX 78642.
