Janina “Janet” Rosalie Jamula (Manley-Passage), 88, of Georgetown,Texas was called by our Heavenly Father on October 4, 2009. Born March 20, 1921, in Lawrence, Mass., Janet was the daughter of Austria/ Polish immigrant parents, Joseph W. Jamula and Rosalie Szumanski, who came to America in 1903. Janet served our country as a Navy Wave yeomen second class during World War II. During the war, she was stationed in Washington, D.C. and Corpus Christi, Texas as a stenographer. Janet married Charles Lynn Manley, a major in the U.S. Marine Corps, of Ennis, Mont., in 1945 and moved to his family’s ranch. While in Ennis, she received her pilot’s license and enjoyed flying small aircraft. Janet and Charles lived happily together and had two children, Charlene Janina and Craig Lee. Ennis created for Janet a love of the “Big Sky” that carried through the rest of her life. The Manley ranch in Ennis formed the backdrop for family summers, and was the basis for many fond memories for the entire family, generation after generation. Janet was widowed in 1955 and dedicated her life to raising her two children. In 1961, Janet married Howard Passage Jr., of Tulsa, Okla., and the couple had a daughter, Christie Sue. Janet was an excellent cook and had a deep sympathy for homeless animals and adopted many stray cats and dogs over the years. Howard and Janet divorced in 1978 and Janet and Christie moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, in 1981 to live closer to daughter Charlene and her family. Charlene passed away in 2003, and Janet moved from Nacogdoches to Georgetown in 2009 to live closer to Christie, and her grandchildren and great-grand children in other Texas cities. Janet was a guiding light in the lives of her family and friends. She will remain in our hearts and will be deeply missed. A member of the Episcopal Church, Janet is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Craig Lee and Sherri Manley, of Robertsdale, Ala.; daughter, Christie Sue Passage (Johnson), of Georgetown; grandchildren Claire, Jesse, Morgan and Max Manley; Matthew Johnson; Charles, Lara, Emily, and Angelique Lehmann; great-grand children Vivian and Andreas Lehmann. Janet was preceded in death by her older sister, Anne, and daughter, Charlene Janina Manley (Lehmann). The memorial service will be Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to Grace Episcopal Church or to the Georgetown Animal Shelter. A celebration of her life with family and friends will follow the service at the Harper Chesser Inn, 1309 College St., in Georgetown. Interment will be in Ennis, Mont., at the Madison Valley Cemetery.
