John Spencer Barber, 98, of Georgetown, TX passed away December 26, 2020. He was a devoted husband to Elizabeth Ann (Liz Ann) Batson Barber for 49 years. After her passing, he was married to Nora Mae Smith Barber for 19 years. He was a beloved father and is survived by his children, Martha McKibben, John Barber, Jr., and Laura Belflower, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter.
Born and raised in Moultrie, Georgia, “Spencer” attended The Citadel until his class was called to WWII. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1950 with an engineering degree and moved to Knoxville, TN, where he and Liz Ann raised their 3 children. They moved to Hattiesburg, MS in 1973. John (Spencer) was active in both communities and deacon at both First Baptist Church Knoxville and University Baptist Church, Hattiesburg. John and his wife Nora Mae then lived in San Marcos, TX. John later located near his son in Georgetown, TX.
John Barber was a strong example to those around him of a life well lived. He will be missed.
