Joy was born October 27, 1929, to James and Pearl Springer in Independence, MO. She attended Northeast High School in Kansas City and graduated as the class valedictorian.
June 2, 1949 she married Russell Sublette at St. Paul’s Episcopal church in Kansas City. They shared a union for sixty years until Russell's passing in 2009. Joy was a loving Mother and grandmother to five kids and thirteen grandchildren. The great grandchildren number continues to rise and she would be thrilled about these additions. She loved the little ones.
Joy and Russ attended Episcopal churches from Kansas City, to Kirkwood and finally in Jefferson City, where they settled in 1971. She was very active at Grace Episcopal Church, teaching Sunday school and cataloging the church library.
Joy studied early childhood education at Stephens College before becoming a grandmother. She enjoyed antiques and built a little business, scouring flea markets for valuable finds. Genealogy became a serious hobby and she was quite adept at researching her family’s lineage, long before it became relatively easy.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Russell, son Keith Sublette, brother James Springer Jr, sisters Judy Terry and Jean Hoefer. She is survived by her son David Sublette, daughters Sarah Turner, Susan Plumer and Nancy Sublette, sisters Jane Taylor and Joan Peterson, brother-in-law Larry Terry, all the grandchildren and great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A family graveside service and celebration of life will be held at a later date at Floral Hills Cemetery Kansas City, Mo.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Grace Episcopal Church 217 Adams St. Jefferson City, MO 65101.
