Lisa D. Trammel, a loving mother of three, lost her battle to cancer, January 4, 2025, at 12:04am. She had fought for five long years, going through remission for a short while before it returned with a vengeance in December 2023. The knowledge caused tears to appear in her eyes for a moment, but Lisa is not only brave, but incredibly strong; with a faith in God that was unshakable. She did not let the cancer keep her from living her best life, having traveled to places like Hawaii and Mexico in-between radiation and Chemo.
Lisa was born in Dallas, TX around 7:30pm at Baylor Hospital; her parents, Jim and Judy Trammel, recall her being a petite baby, weighing only 5 LBS 1 OZ. She had three brothers – two older and one younger: John Powell, Quintion Powell, and Darrel Trammel.
When Lisa was about seven years old, the Trammel Family packed up and left Dallas. They had purchased a motel in 1972 in the little town of Giddings Texas. The locals remember it as the Country Inn Motel and the Trammels ran the place as a family. Lisa often recalled how she and her brothers would help their mother clean the various rooms after guests checked out. She often stated that it was character building and gave her a good work ethic that would be maintained throughout her adult life.
Many recall that Lisa was shy, but that didn’t keep her from making a lot of friends. She looked back on her high school days fondly and spoke highly of her best friend, Lori Willson, who had since married, becoming Lori Reed. My mother also met her husband, Troy Mullen, around this time. It was love at first sight, and despite knowing each other for a short while, they would marry in October 1985. They would have their first daughter Kalee (Eevie) Mullen in December 1986, followed by their son, Kaleb Mullen, in May 1996 and Kelsey Mullen – now Holden – in October 1998. The marriage ended in 2007, but the family and fond memories remained.
Lisa loved life, and traveling was in her blood. We often joked, calling her a Gypsie, as she had lived in various states, including Colorado, Louisiana, California, Georgia, and Florida and had planned to live in several others. She was fond of nature, having a special fondness for pine trees and mountains. The beach also held a special place in her heart. She loved hiking and walking along the trails in nature parks. Horseback riding was another favorite pastime although it wasn’t something she enjoyed frequently in her later years.
Lisa was a fan of festivals and theme parks. She loved going to Universal Studios and Disneyland. Knotts Berry Farm and Six Flags also hold fond memories for her. She was always the first in line when it came to the biggest and scariest of roller coasters. Then, about ten years ago, she discovered the Renaissance Festival. She loved it – getting to dress up and enjoy all the fun shows and attractions had put a beautiful smile on her face.
In June 2022, Lisa became a grandmother for the first time. Little Opal Holden was a blessing and was doted on by her Nana until the very end. It’s unfortunate that Lisa had passed before getting to meet her second grandchild. This little blessing has yet to be named and is expected to greet the world in March 2025. There’s no doubt Nana will be there in spirit though.
Lisa performed various jobs throughout her life. She was a homemaker, a caregiver, and even watched children out of her home. Shortly after her divorce, she went back to school, getting a degree in medical coding and billing. This would be the last job she had before retiring due to cancer forcing her hand.
Lisa was a wonderful person who brought light into all the lives she touched. This is the kind of person Lisa was. She held no hate or resentment in her heart. I ask that this be the one thing we never forget about this beautiful soul.
