Lucy loved visits from her family and friends. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to crochet. There was not a new baby born in the family whom she hadn’t crocheted a sweater, hat, or booties for. She also enjoyed raising and canning her own fruits and vegetable for many years. She took much pride and joy in her picturesque yard with its manicured grass, various trees (minus a few limbs from the peach trees), and beautiful flowers. In her spare time she enjoyed sitting down reading a good book or watching an old western movie with one of her trusted pets who were like kids to her. Sounds of Dean Martin or Elvis Presley could frequently be heard from her home.
Lucy is survived by her children, Billy D. Smith and wife Carolyn of Oatmeal, Texas; Donald G. Smith and wife Cathy of Quitman, Texas; Roger D. Smith and wife Kathy of Winnsboro, Texas and Darlene Gerka and husband David also of Winnsboro, Texas; along with 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Dolores Moore, Joan Haynes, Doreen Sessums and brother, Newman Hallmark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Edward Carter, Vernon Dee Smith, the father of her children; brother, Elton Hallmark and grandchildren, Sarah Smith and Bryce Koerth.
