Richard "Ricky" Lynn Gattis, of Leander, was 61 when he passed peacefully away on July 27th, with his family surrounding his bedside. He was greeted in heaven by his parents, Jack and Eunice Gattis, as well as his beloved son, Dustin Gattis.
Ricky was born March 4, 1956, in Taylor, Texas, to Jack and Eunice Gattis.
He will be remembered for many things: the love he had for hunting and fishing, building and shooting guns, riding four-wheelers, and his BBQ skills. What he loved the most about these activities, though, were the people he did them with. He always enjoyed himself the most when he had someone to share an experience with -- like teaching his kids and grandchildren how to shoot, or the long hours he spent barbecuing (and several people have said his was the best brisket they ever had!).
He loved and cherished the relationships he maintained with his family and friends. Ricky was described in several ways: redneck and stubborn, to name a couple. He did not mind speaking his mind, which is a quality fewer and fewer people show these days. But the best description of him was selfless and caring. While our lives became a little dimmer with his loss, heaven became a little brighter.
Those waiting to meet him again are: his wife, Brenda; brothers, Wayne Gattis (wife, Kay) and Douglas Gattis; daughters, Kimberly Briery (husband, Paul) and Natasha Gattis; grandchildren, Amber, Faith, Madison, Kinsley, Bethani, Noah, and Zoe; great grandchildren Trinity, Gabriel, and Brennan; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH-35, Georgetown TX 78628, with Jonathan Briery officiating.
