

Robert J. Fleck “Bob”, 90, passed away on December 21, 2008 of natural causes. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kirsten Fleck; sons, John and Michael Fleck; daughter, Kristine Keel, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Carol Ann Richards, his brother, Vincent Fleck and his sister, Evelyn Klinkenberg. Bob was born to Frank and Rose Fleck on July 3, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and attended college at Brooklyn Polytechnichal Institute and Pratt Institute graduating in June of 1941. Bob went to work for AT&T Long Lines in January 1936 and his career spanned 44 years, 4 months and 10 days. Bob started working at New York City headquarters of AT&T in the mailroom and rose to District and Project Manager for various projects. He was especially proud of managing the installation of the Early Warning System encompassing radar facilities from the Alaskan Aleutian Islands across the icecap of Greenland to Iceland in 1957-1959. He was the project manager for the CENTO Microwave Systems renovations in Ankara, Turkey from 1965-1967. In 1975-1977, he was co-director for the Civil Engineering building construction for American Bell International in Tehran, Iran. He retired in 1981. Bob also served in the US Army and was honorably discharged on December 8, 1944. Bob was a life member of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers and spent countless hours volunteering for various projects, like children’s safety programs and the United Way. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0174 in Georgetown. Bob loved spending time with his family and friends. He was Kirsten’s #1 fan at all her choral concerts, was a very proud dad, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved a good game of dominos and canasta. Bob had a very dry New York sense of humor and was loved by his Danish in-laws. He embraced the Danish customs as his own. Bob and Kirsten were the joy and the love of each other lives. A memorial service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 26, 2008 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown, Texas.
