He was born on September 21, 1942, in Amarillo, Texas, to Hayden Martin Leedy, Sr. and Pansy Pearl Ball Leedy. A graduate of Phillips High School, Roger worked for Texas Instruments for over 30 years. He married Charlotte Murphy on June 28, 1969, and over those 55 years together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
A beloved husband, Daddy, and Papaw, he was known for his faith, strength, kindness, sense of humor, and passion for his family, travel, genealogy, and clocks. Throughout his life, he faced many health challenges but never complained. He faithfully read his bible every day (having completed it multiple times) and attended Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown. He found joy in adventure. He had a passion for the space program (even had his own star on the International Star Registry), flew a vintage plane, ran trains (steam and diesel), rode in a hot air balloon, traveled in all 50 states (most pulling a travel trailer and camping along the way), Mexico, Canada and Honduras. His passion for genealogy led him to his native American heritage and his lineage to George Washington. He was a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation and the Alexander Hamilton chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He touched the lives of everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte, daughters Kathleen Leedy (Jimmy Reyes) and Erin Flory, grandkids Weston and Kate Flory, brother-in-law Eugene Terry, sisters Lyndall Ferrel (Barry), Sonya Adkins (Ronnie), and Vickie Hawkins. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and his grand dogs. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, brother Hayden M. Leedy, Jr., sisters Billie Terry, and Sharon Church (Chuck), father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles R. and Doris Marie Murphy, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law James E. and Joy Murphy.
Visitation will be held at the chapel at Fairview Cemetery in Denison, Texas, on December 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow in the chapel officiated by Roger Speers. If you would like to send flowers, they may be sent directly to the cemetery on the day of the service.
