

Roy Fly, Jr., 89 years young, went to be with our Lord on January 1, 2015 at 11:30 p.m. after an extended battle with cancer. His final days were spent at the Hospice Austin Christopher House where he and the family received exceptional attentive care.
He graduated from East High School in Nashville, Tennessee in 1943. Following graduation he entered the U.S. Army in July and served overseas during World War II until November, 1945. On January 31, 1946 he married his sweetheart, Mary Frances Clements. They were moved to Camp Hood in Killeen, Texas where he completed his Army service on December 28, 1946. They immediately returned to Nashville where he went to work. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a reservist and in August, 1950 was deployed to serve his country again in the Korean Conflict. He was wounded in action twice, receiving two purple hearts. He considered serving his country his greatest honor.
Roy was in the retail business for nearly 35 years in numerous locations. He was not only dedicated to his family and job, but also served his community in multiple organizations includng: Lions Club, The United Way, Amarillo Symphony, Rotary Club, March of Dimes and the Panorama Country Club. Everywhere they lived, Roy became active in church, enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing games and an occasional good prank!
Roy is survived by Frances, his lovely wife of almost 69 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Larry Reed, Pam and A.B. (Bubba) Laws, III; five grandchildren, Kimberly Laws Pendergraft and husband Ryan, Karen Laws Layhew and husband Jason, Kellie Laws Casino and husband John, Robert Reed, Rebecca Reed and fiance John Zerwas; and six great-grandchildren, Dylan, Trent and Kayce Layhew, Jaxx Casino, Robert's children Alexander and Lauren Reed.
A memorial service to celebrate Roy's life will be held at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at The Worship Place in Sun City, Georgetown, Texas with Pastor Kelly Barnett officiating.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Veterans Administration, Meals on Wheels, the staff members and volunteers of Hospice Austin and Hospice Austin Christopher House. Also, for all the prayers and support of our family, numerous friends and church members.
