Ruben was known throughout his life as a hardworking and devoted man. Beginning at the young age of 13, he worked as a migrant worker, learning the value of dedication, perseverance, and providing for family. He later spent more than eight years working as a Sanitation Supervisor for IBP Tyson Foods, where his strong work ethic and reliability were admired by those who worked alongside him.
Ruben found joy in working with his hands and could fix just about anything. He especially loved woodworking and took pride in crafting detailed birdhouses. His favorite place was his “man cave” garage, where he spent countless hours woodworking, listening to music, and enjoying the simple comforts of having his microwave and fridge nearby while he worked on projects.
He was a passionate football fan and a loyal Dallas Cowboys supporter, proudly displaying jerseys throughout his garage. Ruben also loved watching boxing.
In 1990, while living in Nebraska, Ruben met and 3 years later married the love of his life, Norma. They built a beautiful life and shared over 36 loving years together. In 2002, they moved to Georgetown, Norma’s hometown, where Ruben embraced the blessing of becoming part of a large, loving family — something he cherished deeply throughout his life.
Ruben will be remembered most for his hardworking spirit, his love for family, his generosity, and the pride he took in caring for those he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 36 years, Norma Perales; his beloved step-children, Noe Garcia (April), Ophelia Anna Sazama, and Maria Theresa Garcia (“Missy”); 8 grandchildren, Sebastian, Jacob, Jackie, Rhiannon, Adrian, Devon, Jaden and Max; 7 great-grandchildren, Jassiah, EliAna, Luna, Lina, CeCe, Jaycin and Eric; 2 brothers, Juan and Antonio and a host of extended family and friends including his heaven sent “Aunt Liz” Elizabeth Oswald.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628, with a reception to follow at the funeral home.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
