

Russell was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on April 22, 1944. He was the son of Charles Joseph Mayforth and Gertrude Alice (Osterlund) Mayforth. On August 10, 1968 in Dowagiac, Michigan he married Corinne Gail Keeler. To this union were born a son, Eric Clayton, and a daughter, Alice Elizabeth.
Russell was a 1962 graduate of Benton Harbor High School. He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in instrumental music from Western Michigan University in 1973 as well as nearly completing a master's degree in public school administration.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973, stationed aboard the nuclear fast attack submarine, USS Pargo SSN 650 based in Groton, Connecticut.
He taught instrumental music in the Dowagiac, Hartford, and Watervliet public school systems in Michigan until leaving in 1978 to pursue a career in nuclear power, first as an auxiliary operator, then as a reactor operator training instructor.
His family was his greatest joy, and in addition to his wife Corinne, son Eric Mayforth of College Station, Texas, and daughter Alice (Warren B.) Thurber of Pflugerville, Texas. He is survived by grandsons Christian Brady (Hyori) Thurber of Converse, Texas and Christopher Hayden Thurber of Pflugerville. Also surviving are his brothers, Rev. C. Richard Mayforth of Clayton, New York and Robert J. Mayforth of St Petersburg, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dr. Ronald E. Mayforth of Penticton, British Columbia, Canada.
Following his wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the charity of your choice.
